Advent Begins

Well Advent has begun at the Monastery, we are far enough north that it is dark by 4:30 pm, we begin Advent Evening Prayer in the dark. As we sing the song "Holy Darkness" the Advent Wreath Candle is lit. After a few minutes of reflective time the lights come on and we continue Evening Prayer. It is a very peaceful time. We practice common Lectio during Advent also. From 4:30-5:00 pm each day we all spend time in reflective reading, some in the Chapel, some in their offices, some in their bedrooms. We are using the latests American Benedicitine Prioress' book for our common sharing.
We also have lots of snow

Feast of St. Gertrude

The Feast of St. Gertrude is November 16. St. Gertrude is the patroness of our Monastery. This year on the Feast Postulant Katie Cooper became a Novice. This is the next step in becoming a sister of the Monastery. I hope to have her and some of the sisters, novices and postulants share their impressions of the day.

Hello

What is life like in a Benedictine Monastery in Cottonwood, ID. Stay tuned to find out.
